Darwin O Harper
Darwin O. Harper, 83, of Stollings, WV passed away on February 14, 2014 at Hospice West of South Charleston, WV. Born September 28, 1930, he was the son of the late Lloyd Robert and Barbara Kazee Harper. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 46 years, Mary Jane Browning Harper, his sister, Cassie Marie Spencer, and two brothers, Thurston Harper and Nelson Harper.
Mr. Harper graduated from Howard College in Texas, Morris Harvey College in Charleston, WV, and attended the University of Tokyo. He was an Advanced Educator in electronics in high school and college. Darwin served 13 years in the Air Force, as a Staff Sgt. during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of West Logan Missionary Baptist Church. Mr. Harper was the owner and operator of Technical Mine Service.
He is survived by his only son, Mark Darwin (Hollie) Harper of Fort Meyers, FL., three daughters, Deborah (Charlie) Bumgarner of Stollings, Carolyn (Timothy) Rollins of Stollings, Terry (Dr. John) Frame of Charleston, one brother, Donald O’Neal Harper of Cleveland, OH., four granddaughters, Anna Bumgarner of Cincinnati, OH., Leah (Brent) Bumgarner Nelson of Charleston, SC., Bethany (Rick) Rollins-Jenkins, and Hillary Elizabeth Frame of Poughkeepsie, NY., two great-grandsons, Jacob Tyler Rollins-Jenkins and Ryan Timothy Rollins-Jenkins, and a host of nieces and nephews. A few special friends of Darwin’s are Carolyn Underwood, Marry Farris, Joey Queen, and Crystal Willard.
Services will be held Monday, February 17, 2014 at 1 p.m. at Honaker Funeral Home with Pastor Donald Adkins officiating.
Friends may call on the family from noon until 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Rick Jenkins, Charles Bumgarner, Mark Harper, Mark Bias, Aaron Martin Browning, and Morris Mullett.
Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Fortner II, Eddie Queen, David Justice, George Underwood, and Robert Queen.
The family would like to send a special thank you to Dr. John Frame, Dr. Brian Plants, Dr. Barbar Youseff, and Dr. Peter Lukowski for the care they gave to Darwin. Thank you to the family for your time and loving care, especially daughters, Debbie and Carol and to his caregivers, Carolyn and Mary.
