Dan D. “Danny” Dahill, 93, of West Logan, died on Mon., Apr. 15, 2013, at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Huntington, WV. He was born at Glen Jean, WV, on Sept. 28, 1919, the son of Daniel Ryan Dahill and Pearl (Duncan) Dahill.
Dan graduated from Logan High School in 1937, and Notre Dame University in 1942, with honors.
He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp on Feb. 3, 1941, eventually earning the rank of captain and serving as a fighter pilot during World War II, flying a bent-wing F4U Corsair. After being honorably discharged on June 8th, 1946, he completed his law degree at West Virginia University.

Dan was member of the West Virginia State House of Delegates from Logan County, 1957-60; and a member of West Virginia State Senate 7th District, 1961-64. He remained a practicing lawyer in Logan County until his death, most recently serving as the attorney for the town of West Logan.
In 1960, Dan worked closely with the John F. Kennedy for President Campaign in Logan County and West Virginia, and many of his political activities and achievements were documented in the book, West Virginia Tough Boys, by F. Keith Davis. Dan was also interviewed for Life Magazine in 1960, for an article entitled, “A Small State Takes the Limelight,” written by Life correspondent Donald Wilson. This feature was about Mountain State politics and his involvement in the Kennedy primary campaign.
As a senator, one of his proudest accomplishments was successfully helping to pass a bill that helped elevate Marshall College to university status, in 1961, giving southern West Virginia access to broader educational opportunities.
Dan was a member of the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Logan, WV. He was also a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, and Elks, and formerly a member of the Logan Jaycees. He was a member of the Logan Country Club and was an avid golfer up until the time of his passing.
Dan was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Elizabeth Salvati (married from 1949—1952,) mother of his daughters.
Dan is survived by his beloved wife, Norma Jean (whom he married in 1988,) and two daughters, Susan Dayhill (Russell Longstreth) and Nancy Dahill Brown (William M. Brown), and a stepson, Richard Shafer. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Sara and Ellen Dahill-Brown, and Beth, Sammy, and David Shafer.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 20, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at Honaker Funeral Home in Logan. Burial will follow at Woodmere Memorial Park in Huntington, WV. Friends may call from 9:00 A.M. - 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home.
