Obituary for Alma K Toler

Alma Toler, 89, formerly of Stollings, Logan County, WV passed away at the home of her loving and devoted daughter and son-in-law, Juanita and Ernest “Ernie” Fleming, of Carrollton, Ohio on Monday, February 27, 2012 after a long illness.

Mrs. Toler was born in Logan, WV on August 23, 1922 to Joseph and Norma Thomas. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Toler, Sr., former pastor of the Stollings Christian Church, sister, Mildred Jackson, brother, Homer Thomas, grandson, Ernie Michael Fleming and son-in-law, David Lee. Alma was the daughter-in-law of the late Reverend E.H. and Laura Toler. She was also preceded in death by her brother-in-laws, Robert and Willis Toler as well as sister-in-laws, Iva Hester and Regainia (Drenner) Petrosky.

Alma is survived by her brother, Joseph Thomas, Jr. (Agnes) of Westerville, OH, daughters, Juanita Fleming (Ernest “Ernie”) and Elaine Lee of Hurricane, WV., sons, Rex (Diana) of Parkersburg, WV, Bethel (Connie) of Coshocton, OH and John, Jr. (Nilah “Tyke”) of Wilmington, NC. Alma has eight grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

Mrs. Toler graduated from Logan High School and attended Logan extension classes of higher learning conducted by Marshall University. She has traveled to parts of Europe, Israel and many other interesting places. She particularly enjoyed the company of her children and grandchildren, teaching Sunday school, gardening, visiting with her friends and playing the piano. She was very visible and active in her church, the Stollings Christian Church.

Alma has “fought the good fight and has finished the race.” She was very spiritual, resourceful and brave. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Mrs. Toler and her family would like to thank Deborah Lumley and Vivian Long of Mercy Home Care and Alma’s physician, Dr. Terrance Pansino of Louisville Medical Care, for the excellent medical care given over the years.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Stollings Christian Church, c/o Loletta Evans, 280 Railroad Avenue, Logan, WV 25601.
