Rex E Browning
Rex Eudell Browning, 94, of Logan, departed this life at Logan Regional Medical Center on Sunday, May 1, 2016. Rex was born September 24, 1921, at his parents' home in Wilkinson, West Virginia, the son of the late Walter Johnson and Orpha Vicie Tabor Browning. He was the oldest of six children. Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by three of his siblings: Bonnie Jean Browning, Pauline Evelyn Browning Sammons, and Bill R. Browning.
Rex was a 1939 graduate of Logan High School. He served his country from 1942-1945 in the United States Army, including surviving six months in a German prisoner of war camp during World War II. His work history includes being timekeeper at Island Creek Coal Company. He then was a business partner in both Hale & Browning Building Contractors and Browning & Stacy Building Contractors.
He and his wife Lucy, who preceded him in death, were married in 1946, and celebrated 68 wedding anniversaries: together. They were active members of the First Christian Church of Logan. Rex also Pastored the Justice Christian Church for thirty-three years, and was very community-minded, He was a long-time member of the Logan Kiwanis Club, a Life-Time Member of Kiwanis International, was president of the Logan County Community Chest, and served on the Salvation Army Board.
Those left to cherish his memory include his son Barry D. (Lisa) Browning of Kansas City, Kansas; his daughter Janet L. Browning of Logan; grandsons Brian C. Browning of Washington, D.C. and Kevin D. Browning of Falls Church, VA; sister Betty Lee Jenkins of Mitchell Heights, brother John David (Judith) Browning of Lexington, Kentucky, sisters-in-law Barbara Browning of Monaville and Joyce Smith of Whitman, seven nieces, two nephews, and many friends. He also had three special caregivers: Tammy and Tommy Wiley and Stephanie Fields.
Funeral services will be at 11 :00 A.M. at the First Christian Church of Logan on Wednesday, May 4, 2016, with Rev. Andy Wade and Rev. Dr. Charles Wood
officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens, Godby. Pallbearers will be family and friends.
Military Graveside Rites to be conducted. In lieu of flowers please memorial contributions to the First Christian Church of Logan, 413 Main ST. Logan, WV 25601.
Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 P.M. on Tuesday, May 3rd at Honaker Funeral Home and one hour prior to services at the church.
