Mary Dingess Tabor Perry, of Logan, WV, passed away Friday, December 9, 2011 at Logan Regional Medical Center.   She was 96 years old.

Born Mary Dingess  at Godby Branch, near Chapmanville, WV, on February 14, 1915,  she was the third of eight children of the late Floyd and Oma Godby Dingess.  Growing up on a farm during the Great Depression made her very close to family and accustomed to self-reliance.  Her Father, Floyd, served as a Logan County Commissioner.  After his death, her mother, Oma, completed his term, and a subsequent term, in her own right; and is remembered as the only woman serving in this capacity to date.

In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her husbands, James Robert Tabor, and Clarence S. Perry; Sisters Sallie Johnson, Ruth White; brothers Tom Dingess and George Dingess.  A brother and sister died in infancy. 

She will be lovingly missed by her daughter, Leah Perry Salyers, and son-in-law, Larry R. Salyers, of Logan, WV, grandson Aaron P. Salyers, of  Arlington, VA., and , sister, Elizabeth Hager, of Ocala, FL.    She is also survived by many nieces and nephews whom she dearly loved. 

Mary’s fifty-plus year career in business and administrative support positions concluded with her retirement from Logan General Hospital at age 75.  Her service to the hospital continued with devoted membership in the LRMC Auxiliary until her death.  True to her roots, family and friends were extremely important to Mary.  She was a historian for her large extended family, sharing family stories in her self-published book, “In My Own Time and Place, Adventures Through a Century” (Woodland Press, 2007).  She was a member of the First Christian Church of Logan and a devoted Bible student.   Mary’s life was especially enriched by relationships with her nieces, Naomi Wigginton, Jane Lanehart, Joan Harrah, Susan White; her supportive assistants Jeanetta Johnson and Sherry Harrison; and her church family and fellow auxillarians.      

The family wishes to express their gratitude to all the friends who have supported and nurtured Mary during this time; with special appreciation to Drs. Satish and Radha.

Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m.  Tuesday, December 13, 2011, at Honaker Funeral Home, Logan  with the Rev. Dr. Gregory Widener officiating.  Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery at Pecks Mill.  Friends may call on the family one hour prior to services on Tuesday.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggestions donations to the First Christian Church Elevator Fund, or to her favorite charity, The Salvation Army, Logan, WV.
